How many towers are there in Argentario? Have you ever ventured to see the fortresses and garrisons that defended this land from the Saracen raids between the Renaissance and the end of the 17th century?

These fascinating archaeological sites continued in use nearly up to present: during World War II some of these towers became important artillery defence posts.

If you wish to experience the Spanish heritage of Argentario from the 1600s, the perfect timing would be during the "Tower Fest”. This is a peculiar initiative organised by the group of artists named "argentario art day" that celebrates all of the towers in one day; the perfect opportunity to visit them. At sunset, the orange smoke from the tops of the towers is reminiscent of old communication systems, when pirates approached the coast of Maremma.

May we suggest the best view of the towers on this occasion? We recommend the side of Forte Stella and Forte Filippo, one of the most charming; you can reach it from the south side of Porto Ercole.
